Additional Unit Guidance for the NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Civil Celebrancy in the UK

• To complete your Certificate you will need to answer each question in full as you work through each module in the Learning Portal.

• Word counts are provided as a guide only, to steer the level of detail/depth you need to provide for your answer. You could write less and still cover the key points required or you could write more and miss a key requirement.

Celebrant / Client Video Role-Play

As well as your written answers, please submit the following videos as evidence:

1. Video 1 – Role-play 1 with a celebratory ceremony client (max 15 mins)
2. Video 2 – Role-play 2 with a celebratory ceremony client (max 15 mins)
3. Video 3 – Deliver a client ‘Love Story’ (max 5 mins)
4. Video 4 – Role-Play 3 with a bereaved client (max 15 minutes)
5. Video 5 – Deliver a eulogy for a funeral (10 mins max)

Videos 1 and 2 – Client Interview Role Plays

Unit 5

2.2 Conduct two planning interviews demonstrating:

 (a) questioning techniques;

(b) note taking;

(c) active listening;

(d) appropriate body language.  

Provide two video role-plays – a maximum of 15 minutes each

1. This requires 2 planning interviews.
2. You can evidence this using two video role-plays
3. Each interview should be a maximum of 15 minutes
4. You must play the celebrant and gather details from your role-play clients in order to prepare for their ceremony.
5. Cover key information only to get an initial ceremony plan
6. In particular, you must show evidence of A to D above

Video 3 – Deliver a ‘Love Story

4. Be able to deliver a civil ceremony in a professional manner

4.1. Demonstrate the appropriate use of the following by a celebrant:

(a) dress;

(b) body language;

(c) gestures;

(d) emotional control;

(e) social interaction/boundaries;

(f) speech;

(g) voice tone.

(Maximum 5 minute video – approx. 450 – 650 words for the ‘love story’)

Provide a video of yourself, dressed as you would for a ceremony and deliver a maximum 5 minute ‘love story’ for a couple’s ceremony

Video 4 – Role Play with a Bereaved Client

2.2 Demonstrate the use of appropriate language and tone when communicating with the bereaved

(Maximum 15 minute video)

Provide a 10 to 15-minute video of yourself first meeting with a bereaved client, making introductions and explaining the process of the interview and how you will work with them as their celebrant. Your client will be writing the eulogy so you will NOT need to interview them in full about the deceased’s life. Demonstrate how you obtain key details and close the discussion.

Video 5 – Deliver a Eulogy for a Funeral

4.3. Demonstrate appropriate use of the following, by a Celebrant at a funeral:

(Video between 5 to 7 mins and approx. 700 – 1000 words)

Submit a video of yourself delivering a eulogy. The eulogy must be between 5 and 7 minutes in length.

You must be dressed as you would for delivering a funeral service.

This video will also be used to evidence 4.3 items A, B, C and D below.

4.3. Demonstrate appropriate use of the following, by a Celebrant at a funeral:

(a) dress,

(b) body language,

(c) mannerisms,

(d) emotional control.
